If you're thinking of a working holiday, you'll probably be the first to think of countries like Australia or New Zealand. But also in Germany you can do a Working Holiday and get to know country, people, language and culture better.
We have compiled the requirements for a Working Holiday in Germany for you here:
Germany has concluded an agreement with the following countries on the so-called Working Holiday Maker Programme:
If you come from one of the above-mentioned countries and are between 18 and 30 years old, you can apply for a special visa to stay in Germany for up to 12 months and earn your living with small jobs. You must apply for the visa at a German embassy or consulate in your home country before you leave. All addresses can be found at the Federal Foreign Office.
If you come from Australia, New Zealand, Israel or Japan, you can also enter Germany without a visa and apply for the visa at a foreigners authority in Germany.
Work'n Travel planning EU citizens have it even easier to make a working holiday in Germany.
If you come from an EU country or a country of the European Economic Area (EEA, that is the EU plus Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway), you do not need a visa to enter Germany.
You also have free access to the German labour market. This means that you do not need a residence permit to work in Germany.
If you come from outside the EU, you will need health insurance in Germany that covers you against the costs of illness or accident.
You will also be covered for repatriation to your home country. We have a specialized product in our offer that is tailored to the requirements of Working Holiday in Germany: Care College.
If you come from the EU, the health insurance of your home country will cover part of the costs, but not all. A return transport to your home country is not paid at all. As an EU citizen, we therefore recommend that you also attend Care College.
Even if you want to stay in Germany after your Working Holiday, we offer you the appropriate protection. You can find it by simply entering a few details in our tariff finder.
