As you already know, I would like to study human medicine. In order to do that in Hamburg, I have to pass the HAM-Nat (Hamburger Naturwissenschaftstest) and I have to prepare for that now. After my work I always try to prepare for it in my free time and in different ways. I will gladly explain to you how I do it.
When I'm on early duty, I always finish work at 2:30 pm. Afterwards I have a short lunch and then I go to the library. There I start to learn and use different resources, such as books, websites and videos. Personally, I always find it easiest to study in a library because it's quiet and the atmosphere fits. I usually stay there for two to three hours maximum ,then I go home and have dinner with my family. Then the day is over and I go to bed early because I have to work again the next day.
But when I am on late duty, I always try to study before I go on duty. But then I also study in the library next to the hospital, because it's just closer to the hospital and I can go there directly. But then I study there a little less than usual. I spend a maximum of two hours there and try to learn mainly physics. This was not taught that often in my school, but it is important for the HAM-Nat.
But there are also days when I don't feel like studying and I also have free time at work. On these days I meet with my friends. We usually go for coffee, eat cake and talk about our future plans. Some friends have already started studying and tell me about their studies and I tell them about my everyday life in the hospital.
My voluntary service also includes seminars that you have to attend and that take place every few months. They are also part of my free time. We usually go to Blankenese for five days to the Elsa Brändström House and meet a group of other volunteers there (about 20 people). We tell each other what we are doing and what funny or even difficult situations we have already had in our service. The participants of the seminars are now also my friends and we always have a good time together. We spend the whole day together, eat together, do a lot of funny things and also play. That's why I always look forward to these seminars, because they are like free time or a vacation for me.
