Two months ago I started my new life in Berlin and would like to share my new experiences here. Berlin is a big, industrial city.
Finding an apartment here can be a big challenge, but I can say that social media plays an important role here. Fortunately, I found a nice apartment on Facebook. I live further away from my university, the Alice Salomon Hochschule, and I'm on the road for an hour and a half so the first week was incredibly long for me. Now I've gotten used to it, also because public transportation is very punctual and organized and you can just read a book or prepare yourself for the course.
Time is very important to the people here, and I agree that being on time also makes a good first impression.
The university is the best! There are 30 of us with 15 different nationalities, languages and backgrounds. Isn't that exciting? It is! We are all social workers. I think that my colleagues are very determined and motivated people who try to make life for others better.
I am proud that I can participate in this great group.
urprisingly, I don't feel lonely here, and I am very happy to have met so many nice and kind people in such a short time. The teachers are also very friendly and supportive. They always help us and answer our questions. In the last 3 weeks I have learned about the strong connection between social work and human rights.
The department also always has very interesting offers for the students, e.g. German language courses, internships, job offers, events...
International in Berlin
Berlin has a very special multicultural and international character. Berlin is a German-speaking city, but you can also often speak English here. I always try to communicate in German to improve my German language skills. German people just appreciate that. Me too!
