Since the beginning of the Corona crisis I, like many others, have felt lonelier than ever before. But I've tried to do different things about it. Luckily, I have a boyfriend who supports me in everything, but to be honest, I just missed female solidarity. Because of the virus I felt robbed of the opportunity to meet new people and to be with them. That's why I decided to write a few words about it on a Facebook page that is only for women in Berlin.
Wonderfully and surprisingly, I have received more than 70 comments under my post from women who feel exactly the same and would love to meet with others. It is not easy to describe my feelings from back then. This feeling of connection with strangers, but at the same time the feeling of being so close to people I have never met before in my life. If this is not solidarity, what would you call it?
I realized that this was not just about me, but about women in general who are in my situation or who are even worse off. As a social worker I felt obliged to organize this meeting as a help for all of us. Last Sunday I invited all women who were interested in meeting new people to Hasenheide Park via Facebook. Of course, I also mentioned that it is important to maintain distance and follow the regulations.
We all enjoyed the feeling of mutual support. Our group now consists of 18 women, who all have different nationalities, backgrounds and interests. We have given ourselves the name "Hasenheide Girls". We know that there will always be someone who is worse off than ourselves and therefore it is even more important that we stay strong and stick together.
At the end of the day, I am very proud of myself as a social worker. I first tried to help myself to meet new people and then helped others to stop being lonely.
