At University
My third month of the summer semester in Bonn has been quite interesting. I did many activities at my university and also outside of it. I had the chance to attend the Ophthalmology ward (Augenheilkunde Klinik) and the ENT ward (HNO Klinik). Both departments gave me many opportunities to look at the work of the healthcare staff and learn from them. I even attended my first eye surgery, and it was very exciting to see!
Short trip to Düsseldorf
Outside of the university I also had more and more chances to be active, since there have been some relaxations of the rules with regards to the covid-19 pandemic. I visited Düsseldorf with one of my friends and we spent a very nice day there. We walked around the city center, ate delicious lunch at the Rhein river and later saw the pink castle called Schloss Benrath.
German dishes
From the 24th until the 28th of May we had one week of holidays called “Pfingstferien”, because of the holiday, which was on Monday “Pfingstmontag”. The University had no classes, and I took some time off for resting and enjoying the city of Bonn. Many shops and restaurants have finally re-opened, so with a negative rapid test it is possible to sit at a table outside. This gives me an opportunity to try more German dishes and really experience the cuisine. I still have to try the typical Bratwurst and Currywurst, both of which have been recommended to me. So far, my favorite things to eat were Flammkuchen and of course Pommes Frites with ketchup and mayonnaise.
Spending a day in an amusement park
One of the really interesting things that I managed to do was to go to Phantasialand – an incredible amusement park in the nearby city Brühl. I spent an entire day with two of my friends enjoying the crazy rollercoaster rides, some of which held even worldwide records! I was very impressed with the high quality of the attractions, the huge size of the park and the wide offer of entertainment. Without the scholarship from Care Concept, I am sure that I would not be able to go there, so I am very thankful for this opportunity!
What I’m up to in July
In the upcoming months I will have to focus on studying a lot for my upcoming July and August exams, however during my breaks I still hope to watch some football Euro matches, visit some new places, maybe even new cities, and further explore the German cuisine.
