Catalina's letter of motivation

Dear Sir or Madam,

herewith I would like to introduce myself and tell you the reasons why I am applying for the scholarship. Currently, I have just finished my engineering studies at Adolfo Ibañez University in Chile in the field of "Energy and Environment". My intention is to complete a two-year Master "M.Sc. Environmental Management" in Kiel, Germany in October of the year 2022, so that after completing this Master, I can obtain the engineering title in "Energy and Environment" at my University in Chile, after the University Adolfo Ibanez has recognized the Master in Germany. Even though this Masters is given in English, it is of great importance for me to strengthen and refresh my knowledge of German, since I will be living in Germany for two years and will be working at a German university.

In addition, the German language plays a big role for me, since my family on my mother's side is of German descent and German culture is very close to me, since my mother was a former student at a German school and is currently a German teacher at the German School Santiago. For this reason, I was a student at the German School Santiago, where I successfully passed all language exams (A2, B1, C1). In 2011 I was lucky enough to live in Germany for a year, where I also attended the Gesamtschule Schinkel, because my mother was an exchange teacher at this school, having acquired a scholarship from the PAD (Pedagogical Exchange Service) to teach German. During this year I was able to get to know the German culture better, which made me choose Germany as my study country. I have many hobbies that I would like to explore in Germany and enjoy sharing my experiences. I am an amateur photographer, between 2016 and 2017 I did a year-long project where I took and shared one photo a day (on Instagram and YouTube https://youtu.be/wslvVbyhkYM ), I would do it again, this time in Germany. In addition, I love being part of organizations that deal with social action or the environment. On the other hand, I like to do sports, especially swimming and Pilates, which I would like to continue doing in Kiel. Finally, I love art (galleries, museums, crochet, crafts) and music (piano, guitar, ukulele)

I am a highly motivated person who wants to take on the challenges of environmental science. I appreciate your consideration of my application. I would be honored to receive a scholarship from your foundation. I want to take my knowledge and experience to the next level and make real change in the world.
