Private health insurance for students in Austria

As a foreign student, you have to provide proof of health insurance coverage when you enroll. You can choose between the public Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖKG) and private health insurance.

You should make sure that you choose a health insurance plan that covers you comprehensively for the entire duration of your studies. In the worst case scenario, you could be faced with high costs for operations, examinations or repatriation.

Care Austria

This is why we have developed our Care Austria plan, especially for international students in Austria. Our unlimited private health insurance is similar to the Austrian Health Insurance Fund and covers additional benefits—and all this at a lower premium rate that is guaranteed for up to six years. As a student, you pay only €51 per month. Our Care Austria plan is officially recognized and accepted by all authorities and universities.

As a German student, your statutory health insurance is also valid in Austria, but it only covers benefits in the amount that is usual in Germany. Additional costs and return transport costs are not normally covered. With our private health insurance plan Care Austria, however, you are comprehensively covered and even benefit as a student from a lower premium of only €51 per month for up to six years.
