To be able to study at an Austrian institution of higher education, you need to possess a general higher education entrance qualification or a comparable qualification. This university entrance qualification must also have been issued in an EEA or EU country. If this is not the case, you must first pass a preparatory course of study in Austria.
You can complete the preparatory study course at a university that prepares you for university studies. The subjects you have to take depend on what you want to study later on, previous subjects taken and your German language skills.
You can find all important information on the preparatory course program that is right for you at the admissions office of the university of your choice.
You will also need the right health insurance coverage during your preparatory course of study. Our private health insurance plan Care Austria provides you with comprehensive coverage even during a stay for the purposes of taking preparatory courses. And here, too, you benefit from the lower premium of only €56 per month for up to six years.
