After your studies in Austria

Have you successfully completed your studies and now want to start your professional life in Austria? If you come from a third country (non EU country), you will first have to consider a few things.

ResidencyDuring your studies in Austria you probably had a residency permit as a student. After completing your studies, you have the possibility to extend your residency permit for another 12 months in order to look for a job.
You have to provide proof of the following in order to do this:

  • proof of a secure livelihood
  • proof of health insurance coverage

You must then apply in person at the responsible settlement authority in your place of residency. Normally, you will need to show or submit the following documents:

  • a valid passport or ID
  • a birth certificate or equivalent document
  • a current photograph
  • proof of health insurance coverage
  • proof of secure livelihood
  • if necessary, additional documentse
