Today I will tell you about the good things that happened to me last month. As you know, I want to study human medicine after my voluntary service. A new doctor came to our ward a few weeks ago and that's when it all started. We introduced ourselves and I told him that I would also like to study human medicine. He was very enthusiastic and told me that I could always ask him questions if I didn't quite understand something. Whenever I ask him something, he takes the time to explain it to me and if he is not quite sure, we look for the answer together and he explains it to me in more detail. He also allows me to go with him to the patients and check them out as well. We do ultrasounds of the hearts on our ward and he always has me do that with his patients. If I do something wrong, he shows me how to do it right and explains to me why it has to be done that way. He lets me do a lot of things on my own, not just ultrasound, and I'm very happy about that. I am very grateful that he is here, because without him I would not have learned so much. I hope that we will stay in contact when he is no longer working on the ward. Because he is going to another ward at the beginning of March.
The second good thing happened to me at Christmas. I know an internist outside of work who was also doing volunteer service at the time. We always talk about what it's like in the hospital for a volunteer. I tell him about my bad and good days at the hospital. You almost always have both, bad and good days. He said that it was the same for him as it was for me, so he empathizes with me when I have a bad day. He bought me a gift for Christmas and I opened it up and inside was a stethoscope. I burst right into tears of joy. Since then I always check the patients and then I ask the doctor if I want to understand why, for example, the heart beats in a different way than it usually does when a person is healthy, and so on. But I am also really lucky that one of the doctors on the ward is very nice and always helps me.
In summary, I can tell you that these two events have helped and motivated me. It is really nice to be accompanied on your way and to make your dream come true with the help of other great people.
I am very grateful for this and hope that everyone will be supported in their chosen field.
I am very happy to have told you this. See you next time.
