We get so engrossed in our lives, we hardly notice how quickly time flies away, and before we know it, new chapters are old, familiar ones reserved forever in our memories. I can’t believe my time here in Vallendar is ending in just 6 weeks. Beginning from the month of May, I would have to relocate according to my internship’s requirements. After that, from September onwards till end of this year, my semester abroad will take me to Madrid in Spain. Beginning next year, I will start an internship and a master thesis opportunity with another firm and, hence, would be working out of that location instead of coming back to the good old Vallendar.
Vallendar
As the future unfolds, I realize that it is not possible to imagine any sort of progress without the long days spent here in Vallendar. I will surely miss this charming little city. From beautiful walks along the Rhine to running along the jogging tracks on Niederwerth, I will definitely cherish all the memories here. Vallendar is surrounded by hills on either side of the Rhine river. Atop one of these hills is the Kaiser-Friedrich-Turm, a beautiful tower giving a splendid view of the vast expanse of the valley and the hills around. On many a evenings, I would walk up the winding sides of these hills and climb up the tower to look at the valley and witness the spectacular view. The view from the bridge connecting Vallendar to Niederwerth is one of favourites, looking onto charming house and landscapes on either sides.
University
On the other hand, the university has been very hectic, with lots of assignments, group projects and tests scattered throughout the semesters. I feel like I have learnt more about business and finance in the last 5 months of being here in my university than the entirety of my previous experiences.
Although Covid restrictions are enforced, I was able to meet many of the peer students virtually and work on multiple projects. Once in a while we also went hiking around in the nearby areas in small numbers. One such visit, we went to the Geierlay Suspension Bridge in Sosberg. The view atop that bridge was surreal. I could see around for miles on end, onto the distant hill tops and plains. Since it was a suspension bridge, with every step, you can feel the bridging rocking gently. I was able to capture a few good shots of the view and the bridge, before we decided cross over the bridge and then hike down to the village nearby.
How to meet new people during the pandemic
Covid has us alienated us all, isolating us from social interactions and gatherings which are integral part of our lives. But having spent the last 6 months here in Germany and having gotten to meet many people, I believe that we will always find a way to keep the spirit of togetherness alive, even if it is through virtual zoom calls.
My internship
I am excited to see which cities my internship would take me. Although most internship opportunities are remote working these days, I hope to be able to work from office in a few months when things are more under control. I hope to be able to live and work in Berlin for a few months, as I have always fancied the start-up ecosystem there.
Looking forward
As my days here in Vallendar and Niederwerth are almost over, I can’t help but be excited
about the new places I would be exploring, working and experiencing in the near future.
